Work Experience

IT Department Intern at British Steel

315 Hours | Scunthorpe

Role Overview: I completed 315 hours of work experience at British Steel in Scunthorpe, where I helped new employees get set up with their systems. This role gave me the opportunity to assist in onboarding and understand the processes that keep a large organization running smoothly.

Cyber Security Exposure: During my time, I also got to work with the Cyber Security team, specifically diving into Control System Security. This was a fascinating experience, as I learned about the challenges in securing complex industrial systems and saw firsthand how critical security is in the tech world.

Why It Matters: It was an incredible experience that solidified my interest in both IT and Cyber Security, and I look forward to applying what I've learned in future opportunities!

Projects

The Projection Room

One of the projects I worked on is called "The Projection Room." In this project, we were tasked with designing a website that included a ticket booking system. The website displayed films from a database and allowed users to book tickets and select the number of tickets they wanted. Additionally, users could add food and drink items to their order.

On top of this, we created an admin panel for site administrators to manage the website. Admin users could add, update, or delete films and had the ability to delete bookings—without having direct access to the main database. This added an extra layer of security and control for the management of the site.

For this project, I used a combination of PHP, HTML, CSS, and PHPMySQL for the database, while Adobe XD was used in the planning phase to design the website layout and user interface. It was an exciting project where I got hands-on with both the front-end and back-end aspects of web development.
